I was thinking recently about the phase, “Follow Your Heart.” How many times in my life have I been given
this advice? It has become a catchphrase
for our generation. I am afraid that
perhaps a misconception has formed because of this mindset. The world tells me that if I follow my heart I
will be happy, but the Bible tells me that I should follow God if I want to be
happy. So maybe we shouldn’t be so
concerned with following our hearts. Our
hearts are deceitful and will guide us to what our flesh wants. We need to give God our hearts and seek to
follow Him wherever He leads us. God
loves us more than we can possibly understand and when we choose to give Him
our hearts and follow Him, we will find that what our hearts desire is
Him. When we give our hearts to God we
will begin to seek what His heart seeks and then we will be given a peace and
joy that only God can give. Life is a journey and we all need a little
guidance. If our goal in life is to be
more Christ-like, then we need to give the desires of our hearts to God and trust
Him to lead us on the path to Eternal life.
“But
blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
The
heart is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?
“I
the Lord search the heart
and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct,
according to what their deeds deserve.”
and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct,
according to what their deeds deserve.”
Jeremiah17:7-10
